Is Herobrine speculation or real?

There are many rumors about Herobrine and I wonder if Herobrine actually exists in normal Minecraft without mods.

It never existed, it started as creepypasta and then became a running gag, even the developers of minecraft played with it, which is why the herobrine was removed Easter egg in the version changelogs

Is supposed to be the late brother of notch… Give a mod where you can summon him and he plays pranks on you. Pigs with red eyes, lava etc.

Herobrine does not exist in Vanilla Minecraft and never existed there. However, there are enough mods for this.
