Does virtual RAM extend real RAM?

I was going to create a Minecraft server and use virtual RAM to provide more RAM for the server. Does virtual RAM extend the RAM of the PC?

I guess you mean the swap file. No, not directly. The swap file is intended to swap out if programs need more RAM than you physically have in your PC.

And as I understand it, this can slow down the process, right?

Am

Sure, since the hard disk memory was not primarily built for the function of a RAM, it is then slower than a "correct" working memory.

Virtual RAM has been around for many versions of Windows. Nevertheless, the real memory had to be expanded earlier in order to make the computer faster, since Microsoft is unable to program the swapping with high performance.

Ch

There are systems where swapping does not slow down the process, e.g. AS400

Ok, that's something else ^^ My answer was more related to home computers.
