Minecraft PE, chat not readable?

Hi, I often play Minecraft on the cell phone with my girlfriend and recently we noticed that the chat is not shown to me, that is: I can't see chat messages from other users and other users from me. Uninstalling does not work either

Maybe someone has an idea how to fix that? I would be very grateful 🙏🏻

Normally you can open the chat on the PE by pressing the button at the top next to pause, if you are in bed you are also offered to open the chat.
