Is that a working and sensible set of PCs?

I currently only have a MacBook Air from 2011 with a not very good "APU" and that's why I wanted to build a PC myself.

Yesterday I stayed at Geizhals for a very, very long time and put together a "do-it-yourself PC" with lots of YouTube videos and online articles.

But in many videos I was told about a "bottleneck" and that many components are not compatible with each other.

So I wanted to ask you: Could you maybe take a free minute to look over my components to see if everything fits? I don't expect to scour any forums for myself right now, but I would love it if people who know & have experience with it could comment on it.

I thought that because of the high graphics card prices, I would buy a GTX 1650 first, and then an RTX 3070 when the prices go down again. Does that make sense?

And if I then have the PC with the RTX 3070, would that be enough to use Minecraft and a few other programs at the same time?

And is 2666 MHz RAM really as slow as all YouTubers say? (My current RAM is 1333 MHz and it doesn't seem slow to me, but I haven't had any experience with faster RAM either)

So now here is the list of components (no shortened links, but the third ones from Geizhals):

Processor: https://geizhals.de/...at&hloc=de

Processor fan: https://geizhals.de/...at&hloc=de

SSD (for Windows): https://geizhals.de/...at&hloc=de

SSD (for programs & documents: https://geizhals.de/...loc=de&v=e

RAM: https://geizhals.de/...loc=de&v=e

Motherboard: https://geizhals.de/...loc=de&v=e

Power supply: https://geizhals.de/...at&hloc=de

GTX 1650: https://geizhals.de/...54430.html

RTX 3070: https://geizhals.de/...64398.html

Housing: https://geizhals.de/...at&hloc=de

Already many, many thanks in advance!

tu

First, get a decent fan or get the boxed version of the AMD processor.

Second, you can run minecraft and other programs with a 1650 because it doesn't depend on the GPU.

You didn't notice the RAM speed because MACos is a closed system and gets along so well with slow RAM.

I would get 3200mhz RAM and look for a low CL number.

AND Please DO NOT GET A MOUSE HOUSING xD

Ca

I thought that because of the high graphics card prices, I would buy a GTX 1650 first, and then an RTX 3070 when the prices go down again. Does that make sense?

Makes relatively little sense. I would get something much cheaper.

And if I then have the PC with the RTX 3070, would that be enough to use Minecraft and a few other programs at the same time?

Minecraft runs on its GTX 550ti without any problems.

To your parts:

The 3600X is unnecessary and just tray.

Power supply I would definitely take something better.

Housing is the last rubbish.

sy

Take the Ryzen 5 3600 without the X as a boxed version. There's a cooler included and the part has a longer manufacturer warranty.

tr

Better to use an SSD as an SSD, a cheap SSD would be:

https://geizhals.de/...at&hloc=de

With RAM everything goes from 2666 MHz (there's only a small bottleneck), but you should buy 3200 MHz RAM with CL16 due to the small price difference. Good RAM would be this:
https://geizhals.de/...at&hloc=de

Take out this CPU and the cooler for it:
https://geizhals.de/...64574.html

Alternatively a Ryzen 5 Pro 4650G, but no GTX1650.

The case is cheap and is said to have poor airflow, which will not have a positive effect on the performance of the components in the PC. So rather take this:

Mi

Basically:
The market is so complex that no one can answer this question with certainty who has not built and tested exactly these components themselves by chance.

In the meantime I would always use the optimal PC from the c't-Redation as a basis for planning. The components have been tested by the editorial team and there's a community regarding problems and modifications.

Ca

Uff because of the case, I'm not a person who puts a PC on the table, so that's not such a problem.

Ca

But isn't the fan the same?

Ca

The problem with RAM is that the description for the motherboard says "Supported memory modules: DDR4-2666, DDR4-4733". Does that mean anything between 2666 and 4733 (because there's n,) or either 2666 or 4733?

Ca

Is there a power supply that you would recommend? I'm still very new to technology and don't always know exactly what is good or bad…

te

So in terms of the housing, if you only have it on the floor anyway, I would recommend this here. Good quality and 2 fans already included. Don't hold RGB bling bling.

https://geizhals.de/...19643.html

Power supplies I would also be comfortable with! Look around. I would go in the direction of pure power 11 series.

Ca

Oh okay, RGB was e.g. B. The last thing I would have needed. The case looks very clean, thanks. As for the power supply, how far would you go (upgrades, etc.) over the entire TDP of the PC? I would add the RTX 3070, because I would prefer to buy a good PC now that will run great for the next 4 years instead of upgrading my PC every year…

Ca

For the power supply, one of those would be used (you can also use non-modular power supplies, which are cheaper):

https://geizhals.de/...66475.html

https://geizhals.de/...19986.html

https://geizhals.de/...53718.html

tr

, also everything in between.

You can also look it up again at Asrock.

Ca

Okay thank you

sy

Which fan?

Ca

Um, I still have 1 question: What exactly does "tray" mean?

Ca

The one I chose is the same as the boxed fan, at least it looks identical in the photos?

sy

Yes, it should be the same. But it doesn't make any sense to buy the extra one, since there are much better coolers for less money anyway. But definitely buy the boxed processor.

Ca

Uff, is there a specific fan that is not that expensive that you could recommend to me?

Ca

And I don't know if I look a bit stupid right now, but what is the difference between the boxed version and the one I chose? With the same processor that's a 77 euro price difference, and then there must be other advantages than this 10 euro fan, right?

sy

https://geizhals.de/...loc=de&v=e

https://geizhals.de/...loc=de&v=e

It's your choice. Both are not bad and are easily enough.

sy

Longer manufacturer warranty

sy

But how do you come up with a 77 euro difference?

The tray version costs 10 euro less than the boxed version:

https://geizhals.de/...23198.html

Ca

Oh, thank you very much for the fans, I take the recommendation to heart

Ca

No, I mean the boxed version of the 5 3600X (the higher clock rate is already wanted, so it has certain things before xD)

Ca

Small question about the M2 SSD, I've heard they need a cooler when they're very fast, but I couldn't find anything on Geizhals. Is this cooling integrated in the processor cooler?

sy

Is a waste of money. Take the one without an X. You can also overclock yourself and at no extra charge. And the clock rate doesn't really make any difference anyway. What you can do with the X variant, you can also do with the one without an X.

Ca

Well then I'll take the one without the X. Can my mainboard also overclock or do I need a more expensive one for it?

tr

, the cooler is not integrated in the CPU cooler.

However, the mainboard has a removable SSD passive cooler.

Passive coolers (coolers without fans, for example) are almost always sufficient for SSDs, and this is also the case with the Crucial P1.

Ca

Phew, I thought I needed to buy something else, but that's fine, thank you very much

sy

B550 boards should be able to overclock.

Ca

The processor I now have is the R5 3600 Boxed without X

I now have a fan: https://geizhals.de/...loc=de&v=e

I have RAM now: https://geizhals.de/...at&hloc=de

Instead of the SATA and M2 SSD, I now only have the: https://geizhals.de/...at&hloc=de

Power supply was: https://geizhals.de/...53718.html

I now have the housing: https://geizhals.de/...19643.html

I hope that everything fits in my configuration and is perfectly coordinated, I would be happy if someone of you took a look at it again

Ca

Okay, cool, thanks

te

I can only agree!

sy

What is a 750 watt power supply for? 550 should be enough.

Ca

Well, you never know what else will happen xD.

sy

How do you mean? You won't need 750 watts. A Ryzen 5 3600 and an RTX 3070 don't even need 450 watts. With 550 watts you would have a buffer of 100 watts and a load of approx. 77%.

Ca

Was planning to leave the GTX 1650 in there

sy

So don't even upgrade to the 3070? Then you don't need more than 350 watts. So certainly not a 750.

Ca

No guarantee, no cooler, no box.

Ca

Um, I meant leaving both graphics cards in there

sy

You mean both at the same time? Makes absolutely no sense. That is hardly supported anymore.

Ca

No, the GTX should be the primary graphics card for Windows, and the RTX 3070 only for games…

sy

SLI is hardly supported any more. You will have more problems than benefits from this. And the graphics cards are used together, not individually. For SLI you also need an SLI bridge to connect the graphics cards with each other. Anyway, it doesn't make sense to use a graphics card "for Windows". The RTX 3070 can easily do that on its own. After all, it's just the desktop.

Ca

Huh, I don't quite understand what you mean… My father's PC also has 2 graphics cards, one integrated and one dedicated. And in the Windows settings he can choose whether one or the other should be used for the respective program. That's how I wanted to do it too. Except that I have a GTX 1650 instead of the integrated graphics. And if it's just the desktop, you also need graphics performance to e.g. B. Watching YouTube videos

sy

An integrated graphics unit is not the same. For 2 dedicated graphics cards you need SLI for those from Nvidia and for AMD you need Crossfire. But this is hardly supported any more and is no longer developed. You can only use them together and a lot of the performance is lost. It's worth it if you want to install 2 RTX 3090s, for example, but it's not worth it for a GTX 1650. SLI bridges are usually only compatible with identical graphics cards. So it has to be the same length and width, etc. No idea whether there are any cables available.

Ca

As if I can't just have 2 dedicated graphics cards in the PC without this SLI? What I mean by that is that I don't want them to be brought together in any way. I want most of the programs that use graphics to run on the GTX 1650 and Minecraft, Premiere, etc. On the RTX 3070. Isn't that possible?

sy

No you can't. For SLI you need a compatible mainboard and two Nvidias graphics cards. That makes no sense to do something like that.
