Does anyone know of a good free bungeecord permission system that I can use to set ranks.

Try LuckPerms.

Is bungee and spigot capable, has a MySQL, you can create ranks etc. And it has a web interface - I think at least.

Is Essentails already out of date or what's the problem? I always used that for ranks in 2012 and it was great.
