I don't know what other versions cost, but Minecraft itself can only be obtained from Microsoft, there are no differences. But would still take the JAVA version, as far as I know you can't mod other versions, because you miss a lot.
You can only legally buy Minecraft on minecraft.net. The rest are illegal and your account will probably be blocked at some point.
