Files can no longer be opened correctly?

I would like to download optifine for Minecraft, but when I click on Download I can only start the file with the editor or a browser and no longer as a normal file. Does anyone know why this is?

Wo

Maybe downloaded incorrectly. I would try another browser because the browser opens them depending on the file or not because it detects viruses or not, you can also turn this off

Li

I've already tried, unfortunately, it doesn't work either

El

EXE file?

then you accidentally opened an EXE somewhere with Notepad and did this as the default

Br

There are no normal or abnormal files.

What kind of file is it (file type, extension, etc.) and what do you want to open it with?

ta

It's probably a jar file.
try a right click and then the option open with… Select the appropriate program (or app).
Ps.: what is a normal file?

Li

Yes, but I can only set browser and editor and so on when opening the file

Li

So with normal file my oh so ne EXE file or whatever it's called, I can only open apps like this

Wo

Oh then maybe look on YouTube because I can't go any further from sry

El

Take a look at what you have in the registry

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ FileExts \ .exe \ OpenWithProgids

Li

OK anyway thanks

ta

When i download the files from optifine, they are JAR files! I can only open it in the browser or editor. If you do not see any file extensions in your Explorer, then you have to deactivate the menu item "Hide extensions for known file types" in the top menu under view → options → view in explorer (remove the checkmark). Then you will always see the file type for each file. Unfortunately, I don't know how to insert a jar into minecraft either. But for that you will be helped here

Li

I really don't know anything about that, but after a long search I think I found what you meant there are 2 things once (standard) and once ex efile I really have no idea what that might mean
