I have minecraft on the ps3 and would love to play splitscreen with my friend. But I do not know how that works. (I have already read the manual)

Splitscreen works only if the 2nd player sits next to you and uses the same Ps3. But if you do it online with PSN then there's no split screen

Connect HDMI cable, start solo game, in solo play at the 2nd controller press "Start". (I know it from the Xbox 360 at least)
