I was just about to download Forge 1.12.2, so I downloaded java and the forge installer then I was asked what I want to run the installer with, only the editor was displayed so I chose Java via other apps. A black window only opened there for a second and that was it. What am I doing wrong?

I think it's very strange anyway that you should have downloaded Java now because you need that to play Minecraft.
