Minecraft Java and Bedrock play separately from each other. The following systems are crossplay compatible at bedrock: Windows 10 version, Android (Google, Amazon), IOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and the future Xbox Series X and PS5 version. At bedrock, local multiplayer is possible without the Internet, both via LAN cable and via Wi-Fi. With the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PS4, no online membership is necessary in this case. The PS4 console requires a WLAN network with an existing Internet connection.
The Java Edition itself only has multiplayer crossplay between Windows, Linux and MacOs.
Contrary to many opinions, it works!
You need server knowledge for this, but it works and is also quite stable.
