How do I farm wood quickly and efficiently?

With an automatic farm.
You only plant AFK the seedlings, the rest is taken over by the machine. The seedlings are boned, the tree is moved, and the wood is destroyed using a TNT duper.

Well, if you only need 10-20 stacks, an automatic farm isn't worth it. Ax would be better.
Effi5 Diaaxt + Haste II, and then simply plant several 2x2 spruces together. And then take everyone down to one. It takes 30 minutes for 20 stacks.
Whether an automatic farm is worth it really depends on how much you need.
