What does the CurseForge version of the Minecraft Mods "Forge" mean?

El

Forge is the kind of modloader. There's still fabric as an alternative. Are not compatible with each other…

Sa

OK? I wanted to take Sponge because I'm setting up a server with mods and plugins. Can I then also use the Forge version or just the normal versions such as 1.12.2?

El

I don't know anything about Sponge and Server. If a Sponge server can load Forgemods too, then yes. Should be in the description of Spongeserver whether they can also load Forge mods or just plug-ins… Above all, at least with pure Forge servers, the Forgemods must also be on the client. But as I said, I don't know my way around. So far I've only set up local Forge servers, or just played locally on the client with Forge…

Sa

So if I understand correctly the "Forge" version is only for Forge and where the normal Minecraft versions are you can Forge and Fabric be used? Just so I don't confuse anything.

El

No, most of the mods are for Forge… Fabric is usually there explicitly. Or sometimes just the fabric icon. Writing whether a mod is for Forge or Fabric is rather voluntary and many do it… But not all of them… Sometimes you have to try because there are no hints at all… Unfortunately, that's the way it is…

Sa

No, I mean something like the Mod: https://www.curseforge.com/...onry/files

There's also 1.12.2 for the files until the Forge version appears in the list.

El

If that is there or in the download name, this mod is for Forge…

https://www.curseforge.com/...skin/files

In this e.g. Sometimes Fabric is next to the version, or just in the mod name… If that is there, that's how it is. But there are also mods, there's no reference anywhere, or only in the description. Or just a symbol for Fabric under "Categories". Unfortunately, it is not uniform…

Sa

But I don't understand why some developers don't always write down 1.8, 1.9, 1.10 etc. For the version, but sometimes Forge and Fabric there.

Dr

Sponge is arguably the worst choice for plugins + mods.

Better to use Mohist or Magma.

With it you can install normal Bukkit / Spigot plugins

El

You write it. You see this +1 or +2 after Forge… There are several tags for the mod, but Curse only shows one tag… If you click on the file name yourself, you will see an overview with the other tags in addition… There used to be a mouseover, if you went over the +1 … Somehow that's not the case anymore…

Sa

And can't you also install normal plugins with Spongrme?

Dr

No. With Sponge you can only use plugins that were explicitly programmed for Sponge.

Maybe someday someone made a bridge, but that will only be a very superficial translation.

Mohist or Magma would be 100 times better

Sa

And where is the difference between Mohist and Magma?
