Forge 1.7.10 won't start?

I'm currently trying (by that I mean for two days) to get a Forge version for 1.7.10 to work. It is also installed correctly (in the meantime, I also had problems with) so that I can select it in the launcher.

Now it's already over with functioning. If I now start this installation, the game crashes with exit code 0 (or exit code 1 is in the output log, exit code 0 in the launcher). In addition, the output log SOMETIMES throws a NullPointerException…

I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the entire game, tried other Forge versions (the latest, the recommended, and a different one), plus one for 1.12 which works fine.

I downloaded an older Java version because I read that this Forge version does not work with 1.8 Java. (It didn't work anymore, maybe I selected the wrong file? I took javaw.exe because it was shown to me beforehand that it was set as the default setting in the minecraft folder).

I restarted the PC, reinstalled the files and even received the unzipped .jar file from a friend that worked for him, but it didn't work.

In addition, there are currently no mods in the mod folder, but I already had some in it, neither of which works.

I'm getting really desperate because I just can't find a solution… Has anyone experience that?

So the Forge works you have to download it from the link http://files.minecraftforge.net/...forge.net/ and then when it is downloaded press it again and download it on your pc then you go to the minecraft launcher and go to instalations and make a new version and then you look for forge out and just make the version in then you go to play and put this version in and then it should work.

Thanks for the help. You're right, I didn't describe how I downloaded Forge. However, as mentioned above, I installed Forge so that I could select the version in the launcher in exactly the same way as you described it to me. My problem is that Minecraft does not start the game with the 1.7.10 Forge version, and only with it. And what do you mean, older versions don't work on Forge? I downloaded Forge for the 1.12.2 and it works fine.
