Can I upload Minecraft Let's Plays to YouTube with mods that I record myself?
I've already read that I'm allowed to record Minecraft on my own, but I'm not sure.

Clear. By making all mods available free of charge, such a copyright regulation would make no sense. It might be different if you have to pay for mods, but in Minecraft nobody can ask for money for mods.
Why can't a developer charge money for a mod? There are even extra marketplaces for such a trade.

I don't know exactly how this is regulated in Minecraft, but basically most game manufacturers prohibit modders from making money. Imagine you are doing a great indie game that is very successful. Then someone comes and sells a mod that has the same content as a DLC, only that it is cheaper.
This is the case in almost every game, as far as modding is possible and I'm not aware of any terms and conditions that prohibit such a thing. Even back then you could buy mods and texture packs for CounterStrike.
