Personally, I do not just play a version, depending on the server or project where I'm playing the version is different.
Modpacks: 1.7 (since there are the most for the 1.7, and I also know only with 1.7 mods, from the 1.9 are many known mods revised…)
PvP: 1.8 ("best / most reworked" version before the new pvp system (1.9) aka coldown)
Survival, Citybuild, Roleplay: 1.13 (offers extrema creativity to build unfauteres that make the game more animated)
