I want to build a new Minecraft server soon but don't know which CPU to use. The CPU should already be Intel because of the single core performance and ddr3 as ram because I still have 12 gb ram lying around.
Afterwards around 10 players should play on the server and there should be 5 plugins on it.
Budget?
Every PC packs Minecraft… Almost every CPU is enough.
I want to get the cpu used would be nice if it stays below 50 euro. Around 35
The Intel Server CPUs are called Xenon, are similar to Core i7 to Core i9 processors and, depending on the speed and number of cores, give themselves nothing to desktop pedants.
I use an Intel Xeon 1231 v.3 as an example, which outperformed the Intel Core i7 4970K from the price / performance at that time.
I would just take an old 6-core Xeon… Enough, reliable and has a very good price-performance ratio
Is a Xeon e5 2620 enough?
He wants Intel for single-core performance and you recommend Xeon CPUs. And because i9 didn't exist in DDR3 times. What you mean are the Xeon E3 V3s and they weren't just similar to the i7, that was the same silicon. Only the boards had ECC support.
Client is not the same as host. When hosting you need every MHz because you can get.
Before you buy one, look better if you can also find a motherboard. Because Supermicro and Co are also used at premium prices. Your memory might not be compatible. Because the right boards eat up ECC memory.
Nevertheless, it is true that Intel Xeons resemble these 2 desktop variants. And the Xeons are also available with high single core speeds.
Yes, because they weren't real Xeon ^^
I7 2600K or I5 3570K. Mainboard should then be Z68 or Z77. Minecraft needs the fastest possible core, so a K-CPU
What do you mean, not real Xeons? They were like their desktop counterparts, only with ECC support and without iGP.
Intel doesn't have better single core performance per se. The Xeon not at all.
Minecraft servers run well on Ryzen processors. The latest generation also has good single core performance, so what is more, even for large servers, the price / performance ratio is significantly better. An i7 or so does the same.
Is not a server CPU but it doesn't matter, since any CPU is suitable for continuous operation anyway. Server CPUs are not suitable for game servers. Faster RAM would be good, normal SSD is enough.
Yes I just watched that the Lga2011 boards cost a lot. I once saw on youtube that they took an i5 2gen. Would that be enough if I used a maximum of 4gen for it because you can get it relatively cheaply on eBay
Unfortunately, I only know about hardware, including servers. Unfortunately, I have very little idea about Minecraft itself. Therefore I can't give a qualified estimate.
They were desktop CPUs. Haswell did have Xeon E3 with an integrated graphics solution and desktop CPUs without. With the right bios, ECC would also have run on i7 and Co.
