I rented a minecraft server a few days ago. At first I used 1 GB ram, but as soon as more than 2 players were online, extreme lags started. Then I went up to 3GB. However, when the five of us were online it was still extremely tagged. According to the server provider, the 3 GB were always fully utilized. No plugins are used, there are no major redstone circuits and no command blocks. View distance is 6. The server is a pure survival project
Turn down the range of vision.
If everyone walks around with 32 chunks of sight, a lot has to be charged.
For the time being, the RAM is only crucial for mods and plugins. Which is why you didn't notice any difference when upgrading.
Your problem will most likely be with the processor.
