Minecraft villagers don't pick up items?

I recently started playing Minecraft again, now on 1.15.2 and on my own server (the standard server that can be downloaded from minecraft.net). I now wanted to increase the number of villagers in a village, but they do not take items when I throw them bread, etc.

It's not my Minecraft; everything works in single player. I've also tried many blocks away to have two villagers multiply in a simulated village. There they also do not record any items. The residents have occupations, there are free beds and doors are also available (nevertheless, they should at least collect items).

does anyone know the problem? Do I have to change anything in the server properties?

For me it works wonderfully with farmers, not even doors are necessary in the version, only free beds. The only thing that would come to my mind would be the gamerule DoMobGriefing, which must be set to false so that the villager can pick up the items:-)

So personally I'm not really familiar with 1.15, since I mainly play Minecraft with mod's in 1.12.2.

But as far as I know, (at least that's how it is in older versions) villagers generally can't take items. (I'm just wondering why I answer a question I don't know the answer to…) But never mind…

Whether helpful or not, that's my answer. (Otherwise she wouldn't be mine after all)

Thank you, was really the gamerule…
