Can you play Minecraft Java Edition on Windows 10?

I have Windows 10 and I wanted to get Minecraft but then all of a sudden it says there's the Bedrock Edition for Windows 10. Should that only enable crossplay or is there only the Bedrock Edition for Windows 10? Is there anyone who has the Java Edition on Windows 10 and can thereby confirm that you can play the Java Editon on Windows 10 and also use the features of the Java Editon? (i.e. Modding, joining any public server, etc.)
