Minecraft XP with caution?

I got a Netherite pickaxe on a server with care and repair. But if I mine quartz now, for example, I don't get any XP and so the pickaxe doesn't repair itself. Then how do I get the XP to fix the pickaxe?

If you mine the quartz with another pickaxe and the Nethrit pickaxe hates it in the ofhand it will repair itself
