Isn't it well optimized?
Without knowing what kind of PC you are using, it is difficult to say what leads to the low fps.
The graphics settings from the game would also be helpful.
If your computer is older than 10 years it may well be that it is simply too weak
I put it together recently.
Specs:
CPU: Ryzen 7 3800x
GPU: gtx 1660 super oc (no better because of mining)
2x 8 gb corsair vengeance per rgb 3200 mhz
500 gb with 2 ssd
b550-f gaming Wi-Fi from asus
Do you have Vsync and the Fps limiter off?
Yes i'm out. So unlimited
So you should have relaxed over 200fps when you play standard Minecraft single player. List your settings. If necessary, it will also help to update chipset drivers from amd. I had that on my system too, updated everything and then it ran smoothly again
Have maximum settings, except for the chunks (16), I'll try it.
I'll say without any information about your hardware: Exactly recognized, Sherlock.
With rabid settings, some high-end graphics cards from that time were already overwhelmed.

Should actually run quite smoothly in Full HD. But depending on the map size, even a GTX 780 and then a GTX 1080 was at the limit when scrolling / flying.
So does it say the game is badly optimized?
Isn't it well optimized?
No, it really isn't. With OptiFine you can improve the performance.
Bingo 👍🏽
Whereby Java as a platform still has its fingers in the game.
I use optifine all the time
OK thanks
Visibility too high, or V-Sync / G-Sync on are the only ones I can think of. If you notice that the FPS doesn't go any higher at one number, it's more likely the latter. (You can see it with F3 in the top left of the game)
