Minecraft windows 10 edition gift code for friend?

So I bought the Minecraft Java Edition. I received a gift code for Windows 10 Edition and would like to know if I could give the code to a friend who can then redeem it at redeem.microsoft.com or whether only I can redeem it by writing the code next to it click on Redeem?

Of course, you could also give it away as a gift, but please keep in mind that these versions can't play together.
