My villagers are sometimes nowhere to be found, neither in their beds at night nor have they fallen in and after a long time someone shows up briefly. Some do not work during working hours but either just stand around or are not there. What can I do and is that normal?

This is not normal in the JAVA version if you have this.

Try a meeting point and a bell. Villagers like to chat and meet up on the "market square".
