GTX 1660 with i7 870?

I'm currently considering upgrading my PC so my specs first:

i7 870

gtx 780 (dying)

16gb ddr3 ram

550w

1.5tb hdd

120gb ssd

I thought about getting the Gtx 1660 Super because it fits my budget and is very good. My gtx 780 is dying, games keep crashing (unless I downclock the card) and when games like Apex run at 30 fps that doesn't bother me, which is why I currently only play Minecraft and only have 200 fps there, which is pretty much for minecraft bad is.

So which graphics card should I get? No matter if used or new

i can't afford a new pc, i know the i7 870 is old and bad, but i will upgrade that sometime after the graphics card so please don't include that in the answers

Of course you can do that. The bottleneck is a completely different problem: the i7 would completely slow down the GTX 1660 Super. What do you want to get for a new processor?

Na

Yes i'm thinking of a ryzen 5 3600 or older (used)

Sh

The GTX 1660 super would be well suited for the R5-3600.

But also more: RTX 2060 super, RTX 2070 super, RX 5700xt, etc.

However, if you target this CPU, you can do it that way.

Only these Grakas are currently roughly 100 euro more expensive than a year ago. There were already models from 200-240 euro.

I hope this insane price level will drop soon. I suspect that it could be ready from the 3rd quarter, if the modern Grakas are available in a wide range by then.

Perhaps a used GTX 1060 (3GB) or GTX 1060 (6GB) would be an adequate interim solution.

If you want to save something, I would take a closer look at the small GTX 1060 (3GB).

The processor would slow down the GTX 1660 Super. A used GTX 1060 6GB, RX 580 8GB or RX 590 would be good (and cheap) alternatives).

Na

Rx 580 is a good idea as long as it is around 300 euro cheaper 😔

Na

Gtx 1060 for 500 euro sounds like a fair deal, but it is actually a good idea, hopefully my graphics card will hold it up long enough

Na

WHY ARE THE PRICES IN GERMANY SO CHEAP, the cheapest 1060 with 3gb in Austria costs 400

Sh

500 euro should be fair?

I hope that was meant sarcastically.

Up to 200 euro I would just call it "acceptable", but with a "grinding of teeth"…

Sh

I don't know the market in Austria.

I don't worry about it either.

If I get a new computer, my current GTX 1050ti will move with it for the time being. And the older GTX 750ti goes back to my current computer.

Je

Used cards should cost 100-150 euro
