My PC has the following specs:
i7 870
Gtx 780 with a problem described below
16gb ddr3
550w cougar power supply
It's almost Christmas and I'm thinking about upgrading my PC, and I'm now relatively unsure what to do, I would like to upgrade the graphics card because I can't use it to the full.
In all of my games (except Minecraft) the image freezes after a certain time (approx. 10 min.) And the only method to fix this is to reduce the power in the MSI Afterburner by approx. 50% and in combination with my 144hz monitor it is often not fun to play at 50-70 fps and in some with very low settings.
So: which graphics card would be worthwhile?
Or should I replace the mainboard, CPU, RAM first?
I would swap everything with the combination!
But what should I swap first?
I would almost say that the I7 870 is the bottleneck here, but you should always upgrade everything.
Furthermore, the question arises what kind of power supply you have and whether you have to replace it if necessary
Actually, you have to upgrade everything.
With a new CPU you need a different mainboard and will therefore also need new RAM (DDR4 instead of DDR3).
The graphics card is also a bit older, but you can find something on the used market.
By the way, you need a new mainboard with a new CPU due to the different socket.
Thanks, I already know, I know my way around
It doesn't make sense to swap anything first, everything has to go here.
The CPU is too weak to always manage 60 FPS in modern games, the GPU would be sufficient for now, but is defective, as you say. Then the power supply is probably very old and if you only change the case and the data carrier, you can buy a new PC straight away, because you can then rely on better airflow and SSDs!
