By crafting a bed and putting it in there.

As far as I know, this is not possible. But it is possible to sit on benches, lie in beds and dive in the water.
Either in bed or you squeeze yourself into a trap door
With mods or plug-ins
Lying down without a bed is only possible via mod or if you are on a server maybe via plugin
That only works with a mod, I think more player models
What weak sense are you talking about? With the mod more player models there's a possibility to lie down.
