Why is my PC so slow?

I bought a new HP 255 G7 laptop about a year ago. He was always not the fastest but I have the feeling that he is still slowing down and that is extremely annoying. It's actually all going slowly, only if I play any games then it doesn't work anymore. I play Minecraft with 5 fps (!) And in Fortnite even the launcher crashes.

Can anyone help me?

Ma

Empty the cache, remove unnecessary files, clean the hard drive properly…

Gu

I use 100gb out of 900

Ma

Set up again maybe?

Li

Format hard drive, set up Windows from scratch

Gu

OK thanks

Al

How many programs are running in the background? Egg compartment at the bottom right in the taskbar. Look at the colorful little pictures that might be hidden under the up arrow and click on the unnecessary ones with the right mouse button and exit.

So that they don't start again with the next restart, right-click on the taskbar, select the task manager in the menu, go to the autostart tab, click on the unused programs and then click on "deactivate" at the bottom right. Then just restart.

In addition, click on the small battery in the lower right corner of the taskbar and slide the slider in the menu to Best Performance Sometimes the slider isn't there…

Furthermore, you can make PCs faster by deactivating animations and transparency effects. The former is done as follows: Key combination Windows and R, then enter the command "SystemPropertiesPerformance" in the window without the quotation marks and then adjust in the window for optimal performance, but after that, because you click on Apply, the checkmark next to the edges of the screen fonts Set refine, because otherwise it looks absolutely horrible, and then click Apply You can close the window in

Then display the transparency effects by going into the settings, then on personalization and then that should be under colors. In any case, there should be a switch for transparency effects, which you turn off.

Furthermore, you can run the command msconfig again with Windows and R, then navigate to Services in the bar above, select Hide all Microsoft services and then remove the checkmark in front of the services unused software or stop all services. But only after you have hidden all Microsoft services so that you do not deactivate anything important. Then click on Apply and close the window. After a restart the PC should be faster… Oh and you should start again regularly, but real restarts and not off and on, because the quick start standard is moderately activated and does not replace the restart with it.

And, of course, the following: Search for the Control Panel using Windows Search and open it. Then click there on Uninstall programs, the blue font under the large green font Programs. Then you double-click on unused programs and they are then uninstalled, although you sometimes have to do something, but that will be explained to you. When you are done with it, of course start again.

But then all programs are gone and, depending on the setting, basically all data.

Ma

You can make a backup on an external data carrier

Al

Yes, but why not do things as simple as implementing the Powerslider, selecting a different energy saving plan, terminating background processes, deactivating services, switching off animations and effects, uninstalling programs and restarting?

Ma

OK

Al

So, it makes perfect sense to reset the PC, but in my opinion that is always the last thing you should do if there's another way.

Ma

Clear. Was just the first thing that came to my mind. You will definitely find better suggestions 👍🏽

Al

Yes, I already wrote an answer with all that, apart from the power plan, because I didn't feel like finding out how it was, especially if it only changes the shutdown times on some PCs. Strangely, no reaction from the questioner, even though I tried so hard. It was agony with the smartphone keyboard. I hope he reads the BEFOR he resets his PC, otherwise I have something to quote on other questions of the kind.

N some more detailed information about your device would be great. As far as I know, it comes in several versions. What kind of memory do you have, i.e. Cpu, RAM, what kind of storage medium (SSD or HDD)? Then you can help there.

What can be useful is a disk cleanup. Is pretty easy to do. If there's an HDD, defrag it.

Deactivate background processes that are not required and clean up the autostart.

Fr

Perform a Win10 restore. - Your Windows will then run like new again.

Gu

Thanks!

I have an AMD A4 9125 Radeon R3 processor, 4 GB of RAM and 1 TB of "normal" storage space.

Gu

Oh and it's a HDD hard drive

Ba

OK, the CPU is really no longer the most up-to-date and fastest. But upgrading them could be difficult.

Which would make a lot of sense to upgrade the RAM to a minimum of 8GB. Nowadays, 4GB is often too little, even for office PCs. In gaming, it should actually be 16GB. But 8GB would be a step forward if you think that your laptop is worth it and you want to use it for longer. Then the problem with the 5 fps would be solved. Whereby it also depends on the performance of your graphics card.

An HDD as a system hard drive… Is anything but beneficial. In the meantime, SSDs are actually standard for this. I would think about it in your place and you can keep the SSD and use it for other purposes even if you should change your laptop.

With an SSD, the laptop is definitely much faster.

Al

Gladly, it cost me almost 10 minutes, but I was able to quote it elsewhere ^^
