I would like to rent a Minecraft server for myself and some friends. The server should be premodded with the modpack "Sevtech Ages" (max 10-15 players).
I'm confused about the RAM needed. In the Minecraft wiki I find numbers like 8gb for 8+ players, but when I look at server hosts the plans I see numbers like 1gb for 25 players. How much RAM do I need for the server, if a maximum of 10-15 players want to play the modpack "Sevtech Ages"?
8GB must be it in any case, maybe even 16. With 1GB the server would crash right at the start
Look but above all, that the server ne as fast as possible CPU has (high clock & high IPC, that needs MC)
For Minecraft Vanilla 1GB is sufficient for about 30 players.
But since you want to install a mod pack, it depends on how big the mod pack is. (how much is happening, so to speak)
I would say throw 4GB on it, that should be enough. (Might be too much, Minecraft has not played for a while.)
So my Modpack (Sky Adventures) never needs more than 3GB Ram with 4 players. And it's pretty big.
It depends rather little on the numbers of players, but how brave the mods are. At Sky Adventures come at first 300 lines of error messages. Since one can count on high consumption.
CPU is always below 5%, have NEN good game server provider caught. At Nitrado or Mchost or the junk you do not get far. And a SSD would be good so that the server does not need 15 minutes to start. That can be with mods.
If you have too much money: Enterprise Minecraft Servers at Deploys.io have Nvme SSDs, but also have their price. Otherwise Sparkedhost or Humbleservers for low budget. With non-German providers you are often good and cheap service.
What speaks against it once on the PC to try out? And then another 1-2GB for the number of players draufrechnen. Most providers do not offer you the current pack as a one-click installation, because you have to prepare everything on the localhost anyway and then just upload the complete server folder.
So start server on PC, even join it and then watch. For the 10 other players then 1gb or a little more on it.
