A question about Hexxit Minecraft?

Okay To make the game more fun, I downloaded Hexxit. I've been thinking about playing with friends. There's a question. If I create a hexxit server, do you have to own hexxit for that?

Yes, they must have the same mods as the server, so it's best to have the same modpack:-)
