I would like to host a Minecraft server from home on Linux. The problem is: I'm with Vodafone and only have DS-Lite (only have a public IPv6 and a private IPv4 address) which would mean that people who only have IPv4 could not connect to the server (which is not the biggest problem there are a lot of providers nowadays supporting IPv6 through dual stack as I understand) Internet connection should be sufficient with an average of 500Mbits download / 50Mbits upload / 30s ping.
So I want to host a server via IPv6, but I can e.g. Do not activate any ports with me in the surface of the Vodafone CableMAX because of DS-Lite.
My questions now are:
1. Can I even host a Minecraft server with IPv6 or does it not work at all?
2. Can I just run a Minecraft server over a Linux box which can also be reached from outside my network?
3. How should I open the port (s) for the server if I can't share any ports?
4. Can I link a domain I have rented to IPv6 so that you can access the server with exampledomain.de:25565?
Sorry for all of these questions and if some of them are not correct or make a lot of sense because I'm a complete newbie to this topic.
Thank you in advance for useful answers.
P.S.: I don't want to rent a server from a hoster, I want to host it myself.
So I'm not sure, but if I were you I would try to host an Aternos.org server. They're free so they're great to try out. That should also work on Linux.
Aternos Seriously?
Thank you, but I had already hosted Aternos server, but I wanted to make something of my own to gamble. In addition, the server performance is not the very best and you can't upgrade at Aternos either.
In itself, not a bad thought. With Ipv6 it works but don't think you need IPV4
You don't have to activate ports. In theory, your friends could be on the network with Hamachi.
You can link a domain with NoIp to your Ip with DynamicDNS. There are also free subdomains https://www.noip.com/remote-access
Many thanks for your response. Then I'll probably have to call Vodafone and see if they switch DS-Lite to dual stack for me, but I've heard that they don't do it with private contracts.
I already knew about Hamachi and NoIP but thank you again.
If you change your mind about renting, I recommend deinserverhost, because you get the best performance at a low price

Thanks for the star;
Gladly, thanks for your help.
PS: I have now found Contabo, which have pretty inexpensive good vServers, domains and web servers on offer, which would solve the problem with "hosting Minecraft via DSLite IPv4 / v6".
Yes, it is also fine. Super.
