Do I need virus protection for my Raspberry?

I installed Ubuntu Desktop on my Raspberry Pi 4. Use this mainly as web space and / or Minecraft server. Do I therefore prefer virus protection or is it sufficiently secure without virus protection?

In principle, you don't need a virus scanner on it. However, if there are files stored there that should also be accessed by Windows PCs, one is advisable. I recommend ClamAV. It can be set up so that it runs without manual control.

This is also the only virus scanner available under Linux. 😅

PS: I hope you are using ubuntu server and not the desktop. It uses up resources unnecessarily if you only use it as a server…

A few years ago I tried ClamAV on a NAS and got a comparatively high number of false positives. I've seen users report something similar on the net.
Do you know whether that has changed in the meantime?

I would also like to add that ESET's NOD32 antivirus program is available for Linux and, in my personal opinion, does a good job, especially on the false positives.

No, unfortunately not. Don't have that much experience with ClamAV. Sorry
