I play on a Windows 10 operating system and want to play with friends who have the Pocket Edition and play on other online servers. Which edition is the right one? I haven't found anything really good to explain on the net. Or maybe it makes sense to buy the Java version and then buy the Pocket Edition. What is the difference between Pocket and Windows 10 version?
Definitely the Java edition. Most people (more than 80%) play Minecraft Java Edition. As far as I know, the Windosw 10 Edition is not even compatible with most servers.
Java. Windows 10 runs smoother, but the basic mechanics work much better in java. There are also more servers and Redstone works better in Java.

Yes of course. The Java Edition has its own launcher. You start Windows 10 Edition like a Windows 10 app. Both run independently of each other.

Everyone who bought Minecraft, before October 2018, got a key for the Windows 10 Edition free of charge. That's why there are so many keys and that's why they are so cheap to get.
