Could also go with orders.
So in both cases you could teleport an invisible and invulnerable armorstand with the tag, for example a wand, all the time in the direction you are looking and the particles appear at the armorstand's head. Then you kill all armorstands with the tag wand that are more than 10 blocks away from you.
