How can you play Minecraft Dungeons with friends?

Moin people, I wanted to play Minecraft Dungeons Online with my friend. We're both friends but we can't play because I always show offline even though I'm online. What can you do? My friend just got the game today, so does he have to be of a higher level than me? (I'm level 11.)

The level doesn't matter and as far as I know it's kind of over the Internet.
