How can I play with friends on the Minecraft Java Edition?

Blind or something? It says "play with friends" one could understand something else.
How do they make money then? The free server must have some disadvantages because otherwise nobody would buy one anymore if there are good and fast free servers anyway?!
Ha of course have the disadvantages. I haven't contested anywhere either.
For example, they only have 3GB RAM, sometimes you have to wait until the server starts up, on their side there are advertisements (but not in popup form) and there are not all mods.
