I have an Acer Nitro 5 with the following 2 graphics cards:
GPU1
AMD Radeon (TM) RX Vega 10 Graphics
Primary / Integrated / Hybrid
GPU2
Radeon RX 560X Series
Discrete / hybrid
Minecraft was always extremely because the wrong GPU is addressed.
(AMD software is up to date)
How can I fix it?
Go under device manager on graphics card, see if the rx is activated and usable. If so, you only need to deactivate your Vega unit by right-clicking on it under Properties. Should be visible just below the first tab.
Thank you, but shouldn't the system be smart enough to recognize when the more powerful one is needed? And what does that depend on when it changes?
And is there a way to deactivate the "weaker" one only when Minecraft is open?
Normally it should be somewhere in your AMD software that it changes automatically and adjusts the right one (unfortunately I have ne gtx from nvidia, so I can't really tell you anything about it), but you can actually deactivate the vega unit permanently, it draws CPU power, makes it hotter and less powerful ^^
But doesn't that result in higher battery consumption? Since the more efficient one is no longer available…
Well not directly, keep in mind: The Vega unit has to have more power to display something, that then also emits more heat and strains your battery more than your RX, which has no problems with Minecraft and co. Furthermore, it is not used if you only are in the desktop or edit a Word file. It is only there to display 3D content
The Vega hardly needs any power, it is significantly more economical than the RX in there and hardly influences the CPU performance
If you manually downloaded your graphics driver from AMD.com or let Windows do the search, you should uninstall the stuff instead and download the correct driver from the manufacturer's website of your laptop.
Deactivate GPU1 or configure it accordingly using the driver.
This is quite complicated when it comes to AMD. I've only done this once.
You need their equivalent to Nvidia's GForce Experience. Then you have to add the game there.
Specifically, this should be the correct javaw.exe that Minecraft uses.
And I don't want to remind myself that there were other difficulties.
Did you complete it if yes how?
