Does anyone know (!) What copyright laws are in games like Minecraft, Counter-Strike, League of Legends and Co. Are there any screenshots?
Can you just distribute them on the Internet (also commercially)?
I think that you can take screenshots in games.
But I don't think anyone would say against it
The only ones who once put something on display would be Nintendo… There may be other cases, but if that violated their rights, then take the picture down, so it is very, very unlikely to get an advertisement
Define commercially what you mean.
Because it makes a difference whether you publish a series of screenshots as part of a tutorial on YouTube or whether you print them out on 100 shirts for sale.
Commercial only if it is included in a review. At least for websites like GameStar, I think they have contracts. With YT videos this is a thing, theoretically you can put a copyright strike on the video, but it takes a long time for an ad to appear because YouTube is first responsible. They just take the video down and you're done. But actually game reviews are not affected. Nintendo has been rigorous for a long time, but most game publishers and developers tolerate the whole thing. This is free advertising for them.
Non-commercial distribution is difficult to answer. You can publish screenshots on Steam, the function is built into the client. Therefore everyone can find them on the Internet as long as they are set to public. So I don't think that's illegal.
Posting the screenshots on websites like 9gag and so could probably be followed, but publishers also get absolutely nothing. They tend to make themselves unpopular.
Of course, all this only applies if the screenshots are actually subject to copyright, which I can't say with certainty.
Suppose you take screenshots in a game and send them via URL shorteners such as Adfly or Shorte.st. Because the shortener generates money through advertising.
