I played on GommeHD.net today, I just lost everywhere. I'm unfortunately not good enough to keep up with the other players, but I still want to win. Is it worth installing hacks so that I can win sometimes? And can I be banned for it?

Sorry, but the idea is just stupid. You may win a round if at all and as soon as even one player reports you are permanently banned. Do you mess up other people's fun just to win yourself? Not good.
You definitely shouldn't hack! It makes you feel so bad because you cheat, so to speak. Practice creates masters! You are then almost immediately banned and it is also very unfair to other players who have been playing for years and are only so good because of this and then hack and win 😊
Better play on Hypixel or other servers where there are not so many sweats. Gomme has a relatively high Nevau as far as that is concerned

Only complete failures play with hacks.
1) The wooden hoe is still useful and the stone pickaxe is actually useful.
2) Don't hack hacks

You shouldn't hack because, first, it's not fun, second, it's unfair, third, it can have bad consequences for you.
