Why is Minecraft Windows 10 Edition or Pocket Edition called Bedrock Edition?

So I wanted to ask why is Minecraft Pocket Edition or Windows 10 Edition called Bedrock Edition? Why the name Bedrock? Why not Minecraft in C ++ version, because (as far as I know) it was programmed with C ++.
