Computer crashes due to power adapter?

My PC crashes when I start games like Tarkov, Metro 2033, company of heroes 2 and then comes the message from American Megatrends where it says "power suplly surges detected bla bla bla.

Now I wanted to get a new power supply but first ask why it doesn't crash in games like Rainbow Six: Siege and minecraft? Is the graka drawing less electricity or what's going on?

Gu

First of all: what is this power supply? What components have you installed in the PC?

This can be because Minecraft and probably Rainbow also draw less electricity than ultra-modern Triple-A titles

I have an AMD A10 6800k processor on an Asus A-68HM Plus motherboard with an R9 270x also from Asus. I can't say more about the power supply than that it delivers 450W and is old.

(But Metro isn't the newest game either…)

Gu

Yes that's true.

The CPU has a TDP of 100W, the graphics card 180W. TDP refers to max. Loss.

Me

May be that your power supply is gone. After all, if I'm not mistaken, your graphics card has 2 x 6-pin. Connection, and that the power supply is unstable.

In total, your system can be max. Like to pull loads well over 350W…

This is an 8-pin cable. I still have a 500W NT lying around with a 6-pin connector. Can you expand / replace it to 8?

Me

Then you have the same problem there.

A 6-pin supply up to 75W, an 8-pin up to 150W… So you would overload the 6-pin cable by up to 100%.

Ba

Mhh ok. So a new one really has to be bought

It may be that your graphics card and CPU draw too much power at once and that your NT can't tolerate them. It's best to buy a Be Quiet NT 500-600 watts. Pure Power 9 would be a clear recommendation at an affordable price.

Me

Probably, and if you have the money something sensible, maybe from BeQuiet.
