Repair book in Minecraft?

Got an enchantment book with repair in Minecraft and want to make it on my slide pick, do I have to pay attention to something?

E.g. Only mine stone so that it repairs itself or no nether stone

It works the same on all tools that have repairs or English mending on them: If you hold it in your hand or off-hand, it will be repaired by collecting Exp.

You don't need to pay special attention. You can mine everything that a normal pickaxe can do and if you mine earth with it, for example, it pulls twice as many durability points, but it's not bad.

I still recommend you to enchant durability 3 on the pickaxe, because you will also benefit from the durability and will therefore have to repair less often, which pays off on longer tours.

It only repairs itself if you have it in one of the two hands and collect xp balls.

Say if you mine coal, red stone, kill mobs, take burned things out of the oven etc.
