My new Mac can't run files?

Hi! I bought a Mac yesterday. I have transferred my files from my old windows pc. Everything went just fine, unfortunately I can't run my Minecraft network. When I try to open the Start.bat it says that it is an unknown file. Help! The network must be open again at least tomorrow

Mac has a different operating system, you can't run .bat files there.

.bat files call Windows commands, so MacOS can't do anything.

Mi

You should have read yourself cleverly beforehand. You can't run Windows software on macOS. No batch files either.

Because macOS is not the same as Windows.

So either you create e.g. With VirtualBox a virtual Windows PC or you install Windows parallel to macOS via Bootcamp.

Mi

MacOS can't even do anything with the .bat file itself…

Pa

Thank you and how else do I start the server

ar

Yes, I say yes.

Pa

Does not help

kn

MacOS does not understand Bach files.

My condolences to the changeover, by the way

Mi

But. Helps. It tells you that what you want is not possible.

Wo

You have to change the file extension to .command and make sure that java is installed at the specified path.

Pa

Thank you

Mi

No, you say that macOS can't do anything with the commands within the .bat file. MacOS doesn't even know what a .bat file is and doesn't even try to execute it.

Here is a guide to setting up a server, where you can take a closer look at the corresponding position:

But Minecraft runs on Java, which is also available on MacOS. You just have to start the server differently. VM is not necessary.

ar

Mac has a different operating system, you can't run .bat files there.

Please read again. In the second sentence, I explain why this would make no sense anyway, because MacOS can't process Windows commands.

Ha

.bat is for Windows! Unixoid systems like macOS need shell scripts for this.

Mi

With Minecraft / Java software this may work in most cases (if the software is really platform-independent - you can also program in Java depending on the platform).

My answer relates to the general case "Start Windows software under macOS".

kn

* Batch file of course

Cr

.bat files call Windows commands

Bat files call commands from the DOS command line. This has nothing to do with Windows, this command line interpreter also existed long before Windows.

Is there a meeting somewhere today?

Insults with an ordinary correction? Very grown up.

BAT is not only understood by Windows systems. That is simply wrong.

You are right, sorry. Wasn't against you, but because I had been discussing stealing words beforehand ;-)

In terms of content this is clear to me, it had only been simplified here.
