What does Minecraft do with commands?

With some command commands there are 2 variants, eg.

/ summon bee ~~~ or

/ summon minecraft: bee ~~~

So what is there for (Minecraft.

This tells the game that it has to load the bee from Minecraft itself and not the bee from e.g. The Mod more Bees, then minecraft: with e.g. More_bees: bee to be replaced.

However, this can also be omitted if you do not use mods or if this mod does not need the name bee again
