Urgently buy a new one. Upgrading will probably not be worthwhile.

3GB Ram is not enough… From 4GB you can consider always giving Minecraft half of the total memory, with 3GB I would not allocate more than 1GB.

3GB is not enough, so leave it with the default settings.

With 3GB I would not allocate more than 1GB.

You can't really assign more, because Windows actually takes up 2GB permanently…

Correct me if I'm wrong but I've definitely never seen Windows use less than 2GB

Windows takes what you have. If you have less, a little less is used. However, the swap file may then be used more often.
