Pulling the saddle on Minecraft on the iPad?

I have the problem that with Minecraft on the iPad (!) I can neither put my horses on a saddle nor armor. How can I do that? When I click on the horse I hurt it, which is not in my interest, does anyone have an idea?

You first have to sit on the horse and then open the inventory.

First give sugar to the horse and then get on the horse and go into the inventory and then because saddle in the inventory on the horse
