The day before yesterday my 500gb hdd replaced by a 1tb SSD, I've just clipped the default drive and the links changed, so far everything goes, but the installation of Minecraft since then no longer works.
Minecraft was previously installed on the hdd and I wanted to install it after the drive change again (on the new SSD) …
But when I start the installer I'm not even offered to select the target drive, but the error message "invalid Drive F: \" (F: \ was the HDD before) occurs. In Apps & Features, the Minecraft Launcher is also no longer displayed.
Any idea how I can fix this?
It could be that your registry entries are pointing to F: \.
Warning editing the registry can lead to unwanted side effects and even damage the system until it is no longer executable.
Check with "regedit.exe" the entries under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ User Shell Folders
see if anything points to F: \.
Since all entries are either C: \ (old ssd) or under% USERPROFILE%
Mmh pity, in the case I'm looking for further.
I just found a very stupid workaround, create a partition with the size of 10MB and give it the drive letter F: \
Should work according to a forum. Hope you can do something with it.
Thanks for the ideas, could you send me the link to the discussion in the forum?
Has worked, kiss on the nut
Great that it was solved.
Creating the extra volume with the same name as the problem drive helped! Thank you!
You could also plug in a USB that has the correct drive mount letter
Bit of a necro, but adding on to the post about using regedit, if you go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mojang\InstalledProducts\Minecraf t Launcher and change InstallLocation from the problematic drive to the one you want to install it on, that solves the issue.
worked just fine, takes 10mb of one drive but thats fine.

just found the easiest work around, if you can find or still have the old shortcut, just right click it, click properties and in the "target" tab, instead of the wrong file letter that is in there for example "F:\minecraft\MinecraftLauncher.exe" change the "F" to whatever drive you want it on
