I just got Optifine for Minecraft in 1.14.4. If I then start the 1.14.4 in the launcher and go out again (should be done before the installation) and click on Install at Optifine, I only get a message that the installation was successful. If I then open the Minecraft Launcher again, the Optifine version simply won't be shown to me! I have already watched thousands of videos and websites and did everything exactly as described: none, simply not to be found anywhere. (Also checked under installation, also nothing)
So normally you don't have to start the version beforehand, as far as I know. It can sometimes be that the launcher has not updated it, so it was with me and suddenly it was there, think you have no choice but to restart your pc and try again, or go into the versions folder and check if you have the version at all or if it may not have been created
I don't know what that could be.

you go to "Profile", "create new" in the launcher and see if you can find your OptiFine version in the versions.
(If yes, select, name and save.)
Or you install it again.
