Is a VPS server like a VServer?

Moin, have a 30 Man Community and wanted to make several community server (Minecraft, Garrys mod etc.), I have often read the term VPS, now the question is, is he just like a VServer? Or is that something completely different

VPS is the classic name. Vserver is then a marketing term, but is also just a virtual server.
