How can I put a backup of Minecraft back into the launcher?

I was just trying to add a mod to my Minecraft launcher. Before that, of course, I saved a backup of the .minecraft file on my desktop. That was a good thing because when I started Minecraft, I lost my entire game save. But now I don't know how to put the backup back into the launcher.

Simply drag the .minecraft folder into your roaming folder.
