Minecraft singleplayer accidentally opened in the wrong version. How can I open the backup?

I accidentally opened my Minecraft singleplayer world in the 1.8.9 version and only realized it later because everything was gone. My houses, progress, etc… I quickly switched from the panic to the 1.15.2 version (the actual start version from the server) and wanted to load it straight away, but there was a problem. There was something from "This world had an unknown start in another version. Do you want to make a backup" or "I know what I'm doing". To be on the safe side, I clicked the first option with the backup copy and loaded it in, but everything was still gone. I looked in my% appdata% folder to see if there was a backup there and yes, there was one. Also under "saves" there was a world with my server name. But I have no idea how to open the backup or save. Does anyone happen to know that?

Since the game now thinks that the world was played in 1.8, the backup copy is useless and the world is gone.

This just happened to me. I was on hardcore mode and lost all of my stuff. My builds, my stuff that is 1.9 or later, and other stuff. I never made a backup because I didn't think I was this stupid

Gu

i had a world with a ton of progress in 1.19 and my brother had minecraft open in 1.8.9 and I hadn't realized now it says "invalid player session when I try to join in 1.19

Gu

that also happened to me but i pressed "i know what i'm doing"
